Recent storms on the Pacific coast of N. America have been widely publicized - unfortunately the unscrupulous portion of our society that tends to take advantage of people´s fears has started sending spam and virus laden emails targeted to people in this area with subjects the purport to be storm/wind warnings etc...
Please Remember that all email coming from someone you don´t know (and even that can be faked) should be treated with suspicion. Unless you have subscribed to some kind of email-based subscription or weather warning system then no government agency is going to be sending wind or storm warnings via email.
This is just a precautionary note for those of you in the Pacific Northwest. We, at PawPrint, have been receiving these fake warning messages since last Friday - but the intensity increased today. We receive on the order of 10,000 spam emails each day - these warning messages count-in at about 100.
So far messages with the following subject lines have been received:
WINDY WEATHER (really an ad)
STORM CONDITIONS (really an ad)
SEVERE WEATHER WARNING (contains a virus)
WEATHER CENTER ALERT (contains malware)
I hope this helps prevent any headaches...
